Former Premier League stars shining across the continent: After Abraham’s stellar Roma debut, Lamela takes last-minute winner

Former Premier League stars shining across the continent: After Abraham's stellar Roma debut, Lamela takes last-minute winner

An impressive match week for the recently retired Premier League stars continued tonight as Sevilla beat Getafe in La Liga.

Lamela makes the difference

Julen Lopetegui’s men were back in action recently.

The Andalusian team made the trip to the Alfonso Pérez Coliseum, for a top-flight Spanish clash with Getafe.

Sevilla headed to proceedings hoping to score two wins out of two to start the new campaign, having done a short job with Rayo Vallecano last time out.

And, when all was said and done on Monday night, bringing his score to six perfect points is precisely what the visitors accomplished.

A hard-fought affair was finally decided with a solo goal, scored in injury time.

After rookie Rafa Mir directed an effort towards the near post at half-time, the man of the moment, Erik Lamela, was available to fit in on the rebound, sparking joyous celebrations among the Sevilla stars:

Surprisingly, his latest goal takes Lamela, included as part of the trade agreement that sent Bryan Gil to Tottenham, to three goals in just two appearances for Sevilla, having scored a double from the bench on his debut at the end of last week.

Tammy the creator

Andalusia’s new hero, however, is far from the only player to trade the Premier League for the continent this summer who enjoyed a 90-minute lead this weekend.

The other? Tammy Abraham.

English hitman Abraham, of course, also left London this month, trading Chelsea for AS Roma following the arrival of Romelu Lukaku at Stamford Bridge.

And the 23-year-old went on to enjoy a Giallorossi debut to remember.

After being pitched early on by new manager José Mourinho, Abraham quickly set about restoring the faith of the Portuguese, scoring not one, but two goals en route to a 3-1 victory over Fiorentina:

And the former blue has not been shy at all in making clear his joy at being back on the pitch and contributing:
