Antonio makes history when West Ham seizes the first bragging rights at the PL table

Michail Antonio makes history at West Ham when David Moyes's men take first bragging rights at the PL table

A stellar night for West Ham United on Monday saw one of the club’s stars, Michail Antonio, make Premier League history.

Unbridled irons

David Moyes’s men, of course, were back in action not long ago.

The Irons welcomed Leicester City to London Stadium, for a highly anticipated Premier League clash.

A very close 90 minutes were predicted before the start of the match, with the two clubs separated by a single point, in fifth and sixth place, in the English top flight last season.

Yet when all was said and done on Monday, the confrontation turned out to be as one-sided as possible.

A stellar display by the hosts finally culminated with West Ham emerging on the right side from a 4-1 scoreline.

Pablo Fornals started the scoring in the capital, before Said Benrahma’s effort doubled the Hammers’ lead early in the second half.

Youri Tielemans appeared to have given 10-man Leicester a lifeline when he scored against the game’s streak with 20 minutes remaining, but, as described above, show star Michail Antonio had the final say.

A late double in the space of five minutes, both wonderfully crafted and topped off by West Ham’s offensive spearhead, wiped out any remaining hope of a comeback by the visitors:

Not only that, but it also gives David Moyes’s men the right to brag early in the Premier League, with Londoners sitting at the top of the English top flight with two games played.

Michail’s moment

And the noteworthy takeaways from tonight’s action have only continued to mount.

This comes with the first of Antonio against Leicester that has indelibly etched the name of the Englishman in the history books of West Ham.

As revealed by statisticians OptaJoe, the 31-year-old has severed his bond with club legend Paolo Di Canio, to establish himself as the all-time top scorer in the history of the Irons Premier League:
