Lucas Torreira’s three potential destinations this summer revealed

Torreira’s season at Arsenal

Lucas Torreira joined Arsenal from Italian team Sampdoria in the summer of 2018 and initially impressed. The diminutive Uruguayan appeared in 34 of Arsenal’s 38 Premier League games, providing a goal and an assist for the Gunners to finish in fifth place. His only goal came against Tottenham in a 4-2 derby win, which instantly wrote his name on the hearts of Arsenal fans.

However, since that season, Torreira has had problems with his football. Initially employed in midfield by Mikel Arteta, the Uruguayan was discarded after Christmas, completing 90 minutes only 3 times between then and the end of the season.

The result of this, which was due in part to a system change, was that the 25-year-old was loaned to Atlético de Madrid for the 2020-21 campaign, perhaps with the idea that he could replace Arsenal. Thomas Partey.

However, like at Arsenal, Torreira found it difficult to get playing time in the Spanish capital, as he only made three starts for Atleti and was often limited to short cameos from the substitute bench.

Now back with the Gunners, he’s apparently ready to move in the final days of the transfer window.

Three options arise

For this, it seems that Torreira currently has three options. According to the trusted Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the first of them is the German team Eintracht Frankfurt, who have offered to take the 25-year-old to Germany permanently.

However, according to the same source, Torreira would prefer to return to Serie A, from where he joined the Gunners. Fortunately, two clubs of the highest Italian category seem interested in his signing. According to Di Marzio, both Fiorentina and Lazio hope to bring Torreira back to Italy this summer, although it is unclear if he is on loan or permanently.

In Lazio’s case, any additions would depend on the possible sale of Joaquín Correa to Inter Milan, a deal that appears to be moving slowly today.

If Arsenal were to change the floating midfield, they could continue their summer overhaul, which has so far seen them add five players to their squad.
