Why James Milner is not in Liverpool vs Burnley

Why James Milner is not in Liverpool vs Burnley

Liverpool vs Burnley

Liverpool are set to play their first home game of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign in no time.

The Reds started their season with a 3-0 win over new Premier League boys Norwich City last Saturday.

Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah hit the mark for Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Liverpool must now turn their attention to Burnley, whom they will face at Anfield shortly.

The Clarets have a pretty terrible record against the traditional six teams, but they beat an injury-stricken Liverpool at Anfield during the second half of last season.

However, it is also worth noting that Burnley got off to a poor start in 2021/22, losing 2-1 to Brighton last Saturday.

Why is Milner vs Burnley missing?

Before Saturday’s game, both teams would, of course, announce their starting line-ups an hour before kick-off.

And both teams were pretty standard, with Liverpool being given a boost by an Andy Robertson coming back on the bench. Jordan Henderson also had his first season start and Thiago returned to the bench.

However, one player who was completely omitted from the team of the day was James Milner.

Milner started in the Reds’ win over Norwich last time out, and Jurgen Klopp didn’t mention any injuries in his pre-Burnley press conference on Friday, so Milner’s absence did seem a bit odd.

However, Liverpool would confirm that the midfielder is out by a slight bump.
