Aaron Ramsdale joins Arsenal

Late on Friday night, Arsenal confirmed their second signing of the day, and fifth of the summer, in the form of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

The closer joins the club from Sheffield United in an initial £ 24m deal, with the achievement of an additional £ 6m in performance-based add-ons if it turns out to be a hit in the Emirates.

He joins Martin Odegaard, Nuno Tavares, Sambi Lokonga and Ben White as newcomers to the club this summer, in the hope that more deals (in both directions) can be struck in the final 10 days of the transfer window.

Why Ramsdale brought his grandfather’s ashes to the signing of his contract

Interestingly, the 23-year-old brought his grandfather’s ashes to the signing. However, Ramsdale revealed the moving story behind the gesture.

Talking to Arsenal official youtube channel, the last Gunner said:

“The day my mother found out she was pregnant with me was the day he died. When the ashes were scattered, my dad kept some and went on a tour of the 92 (Football League stadiums) basically.

My dad takes him to games and stuff, and we’ll have a picture at the stadium. I said in the car this morning that I was not going to go out, but it is a nice touch ”.
