Amid Ndombele’s exit links, Spurs reportedly close on Pape Matar Sarr

One midfielder in, one out? Tottenham's move by Pape Sarr, linked to Manchester United, is `` almost complete ''

Surprise reports emerging from the European media on Friday afternoon suggest Tottenham Hotspur is about to close a deal over Metz sensation Pape Matar Sarr.

Metz Highlight

Sarr, 18, is considered one of the most promising talents in France.

The teenager is a defensive midfielder by nature, but he possesses the kind of technical quality, which means he’s also more than capable of taking on a box-to-box role in the middle of the park.

Such skills saw Sarr, despite his tender years, accumulate 22 Ligue 1 appearances last season, including 18 impressive starts.

The Senegalese, who was once an international for his country, also managed to score three goals in his debut campaign in senior soccer.

Meanwhile, the first weeks of the new term have seen the midfielder go all-rounder early on in Metz’s two Ligue 1 outings, continuing to build his reputation as one of Europe’s most respected young talents.

Spurs tied?

However, such stellar feats at such an early point in his career were always liable to arouse foreign interest.

The first weeks of the summer saw Manchester United as one of many clubs interested in signing Sarr, with a later update earlier this week naming both Manchester City and Chelsea as interested as well.

However, as described above, if the last word to emerge from the European media on Friday is something to go through, then Sarr, indeed, seems destined for another of the Premier League’s top-6s.

The outfit in question? Tottenham.

First, Daniele Longo of the Italian outlet Calciomercato reported that Spurs were expressing great interest in the midfielder’s services:

This came as a noteworthy development, amid confirmation on Friday that Tanguy Ndombele has been targeting a north London outlet for the next several weeks.

And since then a new update on Sarr has quickly followed, with RMC Sport reporter Joris Crolbois going so far as to claim that Spurs’ change from the teen prodigy is “ almost complete. ”

The move is expected to return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium board a fee of around € 10 million, plus another 5 million in bonuses.
