Willock reveals why he switched to Tyneside

Joe Willock made the trade from Arsenal to Newcastle United last week after his successful loan spell at Tyneside last season. The deal was thought to be around £ 25 million and followed weeks of speculation about its future.

Now talking to BBC Newcastle, the English midfielder has revealed why he made the switch and when he will be ready to play.

Willock explained:

“Going back to Newcastle was always at the top of my list, so when I decided to leave Arsenal, there was only one place I was going to go and that was Newcastle.

“I really didn’t have a lot of games in preseason, I only played 30 to 40 minutes in preseason. I feel like, for me, I want to put my shirt back on and give it my all for Newcastle United.

“Whether it’s this weekend or the following week, I feel like there will be a time when I will need to step up and get out on the field. I would like to play this weekend, so hopefully I will have the opportunity, either from the bench or from the beginning. “

With so little preseason time under his belt, it will be difficult to know if Willock can make the starting lineup for the weekend’s clash with Aston Villa.

Sean Longstaff Pricing Set

Meanwhile, Newcastle has set its assessment on Everton’s supposed target, Sean Longstaff. According to the Daily Mail, the magpies are seeking a fee of around 10 million pounds to part ways with their disgraced player this summer.

However, with only 12 months to execute on his Tyneside deal, it would probably be possible to negotiate this fee for something much more reasonable, with Steve Bruce desperate for cash to rejuvenate his side.

It remains to be seen whether a deal and the much-needed injection of funds can be reached.

Bruce hints at future transfer plans

So far Joe Willock has been Newcastle’s only major signing this summer. With this in mind, Bruce was asked after the loss to West Ham if more business would be done, and his answer seemed to suggest that if more players are to arrive, he will almost certainly be on loan.

When asked, Bruce revealed:

“I have always said that when you are in the loan market, you have to be patient, because you have to wait.

“We have been patient with Joe [Willock] so look, let’s see what’s available.

Of course for Newcastle fans this will be a major blow, but it was surely not unexpected given the club’s ownership.
