Why Martin Odegaard is unlikely to play for Arsenal against Chelsea

Why Martin Odegaard is unlikely to play for Arsenal against Chelsea

Arsenal sign Odegaard

Arsenal’s creative problems from last season have been addressed a bit as Martin Odegaard is set to rejoin the club from Real Madrid, this time permanently.

The Norwegian spent the second half of last season on loan at the Emirates, but has convinced himself that the change will be permanent before next season. He will join the club in addition to goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who is set to make a Big money change from Sheffield United.

It is unlikely that he will face Chelsea

Arsenal was expected to be able to line up Odegaard in their tie against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, with Guardian journalist Freddie Paxton reporting that he would make the cut.

However, this no longer appears to be the case. Despite being doubly vaccinated and therefore not having to be quarantined, Football.London journalist Chris Wheatley now reports that it is “unlikely” that Odegaard is ready to face the Blues.

This is the result of the Norwegian hoping to be granted a visa to play in England once again. Arsenal have until noon on Friday to sign up the 22-year-old to play, but judging from the latest update, it doesn’t look promising.

However, there will be no such problems for Ramsdale, who is expected to take his place on the bench for the match.

What impact could the lack of Odegaard have?
