Gómez and Thiago train / midfielder duo absent

Mixed news for Liverpool ahead of Burnley: midfielder duo miss training, but Joe Gomez returns

The latest training session held by Liverpool on Thursday afternoon has led to a number of noteworthy conclusions on the staff front.

Clash of clarets

Jurgen Klopp’s men are, of course, in the process of speeding up preparations for the weekend.

The Reds are ready to host Burnley, in the second Premier League game of the respective clubs of the new campaign.

Liverpool’s first game last weekend, of course, saw the Merseyside giants do quick work with newly promoted Norwich City, with star man Mohamed Salah playing a role in all three goals en route to a final score of 3-0.

As such, it goes without saying that everyone in Merseyside’s red half will undoubtedly be eager for their team to pull off two wins out of two to start the season this weekend.

Sean Dyche’s Burnley, however, will have other ideas, with the Clarets desperate to avoid a second straight loss in 2021/22, having been killed by Brighton the last time.

The most recent reds

Despite heading into action as overwhelming favorites for all three points, Jurgen Klopp will be hopeful to have as many of his key artists available as possible on Saturday afternoon.

And, as described above, a glimpse of the latest Kirkby-derived personnel news will be released on Thursday.

The information is courtesy of Ian Doyle of The Liverpool Echo, who first confirmed that a pair of midfielders, in the form of James Milner and Fabinho, played no role in training for the Reds this morning.

However, it is significant to add that “his absence is not of great concern to Liverpool.”

Then came an update on midfielder duo Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson. And, in much more positive news, after playing no role against Norwich, both the Spanish and the English are believed to have emerged unscathed on Thursday.

The same can also be said for Joe Gomez, who, after a notable absence from training earlier in the week, returned “without a hitch.”
