Bernardo Silva rejects a possible Tottenham change

Bernardo Silva's position on a possible Tottenham change revealed

On Thursday afternoon you will get a glimpse of the opening, or rather lack thereof, of Manchester City star Bernardo Silva to join Premier League rivals Tottenham.

‘He wants to leave’

The name of Portuguese midfielder Silva, of course, has been at the center of the media lately.

This comes with the 27-year-old, who was once such a vital cog in Pep Guardiola’s machine, having endured an offseason last time.

Silva, who scored just a pair of goals in 26 Premier League appearances, received strong criticism from sections of the Sky Blues faithful in 2020/21 amid concerns that the ex-monaco will never again achieve the heights of his campaign. Etihad debut.

Add to this the summer arrival of Jack Grealish, accompanied by the appearance of Phil Foden, and speculation about Silva’s future in Manchester would likely continue forever before long.

The situation, in turn, came to a head earlier this month, when Pep Guardiola essentially confirmed that his underperforming midfield star was considering a move elsewhere:

‘He is our player. Not only Bernardo, there are two or three players who want to leave but they are our players and when they bring an offer and want to leave we are open to discuss but it depends on them. ‘

No to the Spurs

At this point, it is not understood that definitive proposals have come for Silva, but nonetheless, lately the media has published a possible landing site.

The destination comes in the form of Tottenham.

Amid the City’s long hunt for Lilywhites’ talisman, Harry Kane, the possibility of Silva moving to North London as part of a swap deal has been raised.

However, if the last word from the media on Thursday is something to go through, then such a move to materialize, as things stand, seems entirely unlikely.

According to the trustworthy Sam Lee of The Athletic, Silva has made it very clear that he has no interest in moving to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, it is added that:

The 27-year-old will be able to leave City this summer if a suitable offer arrives and his agent, Jorge Mendes, has been in Manchester this week to try to find a solution.

It is understood that the Portuguese international has his sights set on leaving for Spain.
