Arsenal confirm Covid outbreak / Aubameyang boost ahead of Chelsea

Arsenal confirms quartet of Covid-19 cases, but Aubameyang gives Arteta a boost ahead of Chelsea

Premier League giants Arsenal confirmed a Covid-19 outbreak in the club’s team on Thursday.

Less than ideal start

Mikel Arteta’s men, of course, kicked off their 2021/22 campaign last weekend.

The Gunners made the trip to Brentford Community Stadium, for a Premier League meeting with the newly promoted Bees.

Despite a somewhat tumultuous summer and the absence of several key players, Arsenal, for the most part, were seen as a huge favorite to emerge from the clash with a first three-point loot of the season.

However, when all was said and done, to say that such expectations turned out to be misplaced would be an understatement.

A gloomy opening day display, during which the visitors worked both forward and backward, finally culminated with Brentford emerging on the right side from a final score of 2-0.

Covid confirmation

While there can be no excuses for just What Poor Arsenal really looked at Brentford Community Stadium last week, as mentioned above, it should be noted that Mikel Arteta was unable to summon a large number of key players for the clash.

All Thomas Partey, Gabriel Magalhaes, Eddie Nketiah, Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were deemed unavailable to appear against the Bees.

The latter duo’s absence came amid completely bizarre circumstances, with confirmation coming within hours of the start of the match that both forwards had suddenly contracted unspecified illnesses.

On Thursday, however, a full explanation of the situation was received.

As revealed in an official statement on the club’s social media platforms, both Lacazette and Aubameyang tested positive for Covid-19. Substitute goalkeeper Alex Runarsson and veteran forward Willian, meanwhile, also yielded positive evidence.

However, in a boost to everyone associated with Arsenal, it is added that Aubameyang has thankfully now recovered:

“He will return to training and will be evaluated before Sunday’s game.”

The other three stars mentioned, however, seem out of the question against Chelsea, with Gabriel, Partey and Nketiah, as expected, too unavailable.
