Former Arsenal talent scores a hat-trick in West Ham’s beating of the Gunners’ U23s

Arsenal's woes mount as former Gunners' talents score a hat-trick in West Ham's beating of the club's under-23s

A completely difficult days for Arsenal on Monday were seen considerably worse by one of the former stars of the club’s academy.

Bees shock the masses

Mikel Arteta’s first team, of course, kicked off their 2021/22 campaign last weekend.

The Gunners made the trip to Brentford Community Stadium, for a Premier League meeting with the newly promoted Bees.

Arsenal, despite the absence of several of the club’s key players and a thoroughly disappointing preseason campaign, were seen, for the most part, as favorites ahead of the action that begins in the capital.

However, when all was said and done on Friday night, to say that such expectations were misplaced would be an understatement.

A grim opening day display, during which the visitors worked both forward and backward, finally culminated with Brentford emerging on the right side from a final score of 2-0.

Okoflex shines

As such, it goes without saying that everyone involved with Arsenal was undoubtedly hoping for positive news to emerge from the club’s latest efforts at the youth level.

The Gunners Under-23s made a brief trip to the London stadium recently for their first game of the Premier League 2 campaign.

People like the highly regarded Omar Rekik, Miguel Azeez and Charlie Patino were involved from the start as Kevin Betsy’s men set out to get his 2021/22 term off to a positive start.

The next 90 minutes in the capital, however, turned out to be downright embarrassing for Arsenal’s youngsters.

Another abject performance, equally lacking in structure and basic desire as that of their older counterparts over the weekend, finally culminated in a 6-1 loss at the hands of West Ham.

However, further aggravating the visitors was the fact that the star of tonight’s proceedings actually used to practice his trade with the club.

The player in question, Armstrong Okoflex, partnered with the Gunners in 2017 and moved to North London from his home country of Ireland.

Okoflex, however, failed to pass the grade at Arsenal, resulting in a quick departure from Scottish Celtic.

However, after returning to the English capital this summer to join West Ham, the winger had his first outing for the Irons Under-23s on Monday.

And what a debut it turned out … Okoflex scored a hat-trick against his former employers, amid an all-round stellar performance.
