‘Whatever happens …’ – Spurs fans are enraged by club’s pre-game message

'Whatever happens ...' - Spurs fans are enraged by previous Twitter message to the club's Man City

The Tottenham Hotspur faithful have taken to social media in numbers tonight, responding to what has been seen as a totally defeatist message from the club’s Twitter team.

Kane is lost

Of course, a new era in the Lilywhite half of North London will begin shortly.

After choosing to part ways with José Mourinho, Spurs will play the club’s first competitive game under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

The clash couldn’t be much more challenging, with a daunting showdown with Premier League champions Manchester City in store.

Meanwhile, the work in question for Nuno’s men was made to look even more heartbreaking shortly before the announcement of the club’s starting lineup for tonight.

This comes with star man Harry Kane, of course vehemently. inclined to move to the Etihad this summer, having been completely omitted from the hosts’ team of the day.

Tottenham, meanwhile, has ensured that the absence of their offensive spearhead is due to Kane simply not yet fit enough to appear.

However, whispers among the club’s fan base that the English international might indeed be mounting one last push to secure a high-value move for Man City has inevitably started to spread.

‘Whatever happens…’

As such, it’s safe to say that the mood in North London ahead of Sunday’s start is tense at best.

So it goes without saying that any content posted to the Spurs’ social media platforms in the past hour should probably have been double-checked, to ensure no more fuel was added to the growing fire.

In turn, it was a surprise when the following message, ensuring that ‘Whatever happens, we will give absolutely everything’, reached the Lilywhites’ Twitter shortly before the start:

Since then, the tone of the message has been widely interpreted as completely defeatist, amid suggestions that the Spurs manager could only have had the realistic intention of expressing one of two things:

Either that Harry Kane is ready to move on, or that securing a result tonight could be a bridge too far:
