Pep Guardiola confirms concern about Gundogan’s injury after Spurs defeat

FPL repercussions: Pep Guardiola confirms concern over Gundogan's injury after Spurs defeat

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed on Sunday night that Ilkay Gundogan may have been injured against Tottenham.

The son makes the difference

Premier League champions City, of course, launched their title defense today.

The Sky Blues made the trip to North London, for a highly anticipated showdown with Nuno Espirito Santo’s Tottenham Hotspur.

The latter were seen as the weakest of the day, in their first competitive outing under the guidance of the new club boss and without the services of the absent Harry Kane.

Yet when all was said and done in the capital, the Spurs stood tall, eventually emerging on the right side from a 1-0 scoreline.

The only goal of the game came ten minutes into the second half, when an explosive escape culminated with Heung-min Son taking the far corner of Ederson’s net, courtesy of a precise left-handed shot:

Gundo concern

However, as described above, the final result at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium proved to be far from the only concern for a considerably below-average Manchester City side on Sunday.

At the end of the action in the capital, midfielder Ilkay Gundogan fell to the ground clutching his shoulder, on the back of a strong challenge on the wing.

In turn, speaking during his post-game press duties, Pep Guardiola was inevitably asked for an update on the well-being of his midfield star.

And the Spanish update on the situation turned out to be entirely concerning, as Guardiola confirmed that ‘it seems that something happened’, before the medical scans on Monday:

Tottenham fans will love what Heung-min Son said about his future after Manchester City’s triumph
