Christian Norgaard reveals Brentford's plan that saw them beat Arsenal and involved Granit Xhaka

Brentford 2-Arsenal 0

Arsenal kicked off their 2021/22 Premier League campaign on Friday night.

The Gunners faced a trip through London for a showdown with the newly promoted Brentford.

The Bees have lit up the championship for the past few years with their exciting offensive football style, and it looks like they’ll continue that in the Premier League as well.

Brentford would take the lead in his first PL game after just 22 minutes through a beautiful curling effort from winger Sergi Canos.

Christian Norgaard then put the result out of question after 73 minutes, earning Brentford a historic victory that will live on in the club’s memory:

Norgaard reveals Brentford’s plan

Following their first Premier League victory, Brentford’s second scorer of the day, Christian Norgaard, has revealed the Bees’ plan that eventually led them to beat Arsenal 2-0.

And according to Norgaard, Brentford’s plan focused on Arsenal’s midfield, shutting down its players like Granit Xhaka:

“If you look at our midfield, it is not the most offensive so it was already quite defensive and compact, but it is mobile.

“Our plan was to close the medium where they have good players like Granit Xhaka.”

And while Norgaard admitted that Arsenal had too much space in that area at times, they shut it down for the entire game and it clearly worked out well:

“Even though they got too much space at times and created dangerous moments through Emile Smith-Rowe, we shut down the whole game.

“That was a very small achievement compared to the whole season, but we already had confidence before this game and that confidence increased.

“We could have played even better. It was a good start. “
