The absence of Brighton & Hove Albion defender Joel Veltman from the club’s meeting with Burnley this afternoon has been explained.

Mac Allister makes a difference

Graham Potter’s men were back in action recently.

The Seagulls made the trip to Turf Moor, for a Premier League match on opening day with Burnley.

Brighton approached proceedings with a somewhat negative atmosphere around the club’s camp amid concerns that the sailors had not done enough to address their 2020/21 season scoring issues.

However, when all was said and done in Lancashire on Saturday, the visitors put those concerns aside, at least for the moment, en route to a 2-1 victory.

Burnley took the lead in the clash in two minutes, as James Tarkowski headed home to enthusiastic celebrations from the home crowd.

Brighton, however, was undaunted and continued to level up with just over 15 minutes to go, via Neal Maupay.

Then, just five minutes later, the revealing moment of the afternoon came, as the end of Alexis Mac Allister secured a positive opening to the season for the Seagulls.

Veltman Ultimate

However, on a positive day for Brighton, a concern arose from the staff front.

This was due to the surprising absence of defender Joel Veltman from the club’s squad of the day at Turf Moor.

In turn, speaking of the back of the action coming to an end, it came as no surprise when Graham Potter was drawn in by the reasoning behind the complete omission of his plug.

And the Brighton boss went on to reveal that Veltman this week came into close contact with a positive Covid-19 case, before providing a brief explanation of attackers Percy Tau and Aaron Connolly who also missed:
