Arsenal’s poor summer
The problem with sketching plans for a major equipment overhaul before the summer window is that when it seems slow, questions are inevitably asked.
This is certainly the case when it comes to Arsenal, which was presumably trying to do just that, but so far he has only managed three signings and one permanent exit.
Ben White, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares are good signings, but only the former seems to feature in Arsenal’s strongest starting eleven on a regular basis, with Tavares and Lokonga largely as reserve options.
However, there have been international tournaments to deal with, which means that business across the continent, for the most part, has been slow. It’s not a popular excuse, and it certainly won’t help those who rightly point out that Arsenal’s first game of the season is in just over 24 hours, with most of the same team remaining.
Will there be more movement?
With such a situation, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta understandably received several questions about his transfer policy for the coming weeks during his pre-match press conference.
The Gunners manager suggested that he expects to see more movement (both in and out) on the transfer front, responding:
“In this first period of the transfer window, I think we have done some things that we wanted to do that will help us to be in a much better place. There’s still a window to go through, so I’m sure things will happen either way. “
However, he was unwilling to be drawn in by the number of players he hoped to bring in, saying instead that:
“I am willing to work with the players I have at the moment and get the most out of them. We’ll see what we can do. “
However, perhaps unlike previous seasons, Arteta revealed that the owner group KSE was indeed willing to invest in the side, stating that:
“We have the property that they are willing to invest in the team and they want the team to be better and with bigger goals. We are trying to find the balance, because at the same time we have to be careful because we need a financial position that is sustainable and healthy for the club ”.
Do I work late at the window?
One player Arsenal have been linked to this summer is Martin Odegaard, who impressed while on loan at Emirates Stadium during the second half of last season. However, reports suggest that Real Madrid have yet to make up their minds about their future, something that Arteta perhaps hinted at during his press conference, saying:
“This is how the deals go. At the same time, something that cannot be done on August 12 can be done on the last day. Whether you are happy to bring the player or not, I think it is more important. “
And, in good news for Arsenal fans, the Arsenal boss suggested that the Gunners will be busy in the window until the deadline, explaining that:
“You can see the ball starting to roll at a different speed in the last week or so. It has been a difficult window. A lot will probably happen in the last week. “
Will the club be able to strengthen as they would like?
